Week 15: Thanksgiving

Hello out there,
this week was awesome again and so many things happened.
On Monday Tara and I did presentations in 6 classes of American History and Sociology and I really enjoyed doing it once again. So now I have done 20 in total and I think that´s it for the moment but I would really like to do some more.
On Tuesday we had an activity day since our school collected over 3000 cans (2000 were required) for a food drive (donation). So at the beginning of the day we had an assembly in the gym and they explained how everything works and the "Warm Fuzzy"-Day that was going on that day. So everybody got yarn and you give one small piece of it together with a compliment to another person and tie it around their yarn-necklace. The Senior´s were dismissed first to go to an activity for the first four hours and I chose to watch "Lord of the Rings" with some of my friends. During this time they also had "Group Picture Day" so I had to go when the called out DECA and the German club (which nobody expected). In 5th hour we had our normal lunch and then regular class, which meant Marketing for me. We went to Walmart to look up some toy prices for Black Friday. After that, means 6th and 7th hour, we had to chose and activity again and so I chose to go to Karaoke. During Homeroom we had a Pep Rally because our Lamar Football team was going to State on Friday. The band and the Cheerleaders performed and in the middle of it all the lights went of and they had blacklights set up so it was just amazing. Some of the football players came down to the gym floor and danced together with the cheerleaders to "Juju on that Beat", "Watch me" and finally everyone to "YMCA". This is one of the moments in my exchange year where you could really feel the school sprit and I enjoyed it so much. After school I had to get in line for buying tickets for the game and then Tara and I did our German class again. The rest of the day I just spent relaxing since I was still not totally well.
On Wednesday was my first day off for break and I just slept long and stayed at home till the early afternoon when my hostparents took me to Joplin for dinner.
On Thursday was Thanksgiving! I was super excited for my first one and about noon we arrived at the house of relatives where we had our Thanksgiving meal. It was so good and they had a whole lot of desserts as well. We left around 3:30pm from there to go to Webb City´s Walmart for Black Friday Shopping. First we got the last wristband for a Hatchimal and then we got in line for other stuff since  they started it at 6. So we had to wait about 1.5 hours and grabbed other things as well afterwards. When we wanted to check out we had to wait again for ages but when we finally were done we went to JCPenny and to Kohl´s and we got back home at 3 in the morning. I only got a few hours of sleep because at around 8.30 my hostmom took me to Joplin again for continuing Black Friday shopping at the mall. I bought a whole bunch of things including my dress for Winter Formal. At 12.30 my hostdad picked me up and we went to the State Championship game in Springfield. They played against Trinity Catholic and they won 26-18. This made them the winners of the State Championship
in 2016 which is the 6th time in a row! GO TIGERS!! It was an awesome game but it was freezing cold outside. After the game we drove back to Lamar and waited at the football field for welcoming and congratulating the players when they arrived. I am so proud of the team and I am sad because my first and last football season is over now but it was amazing, breathtaking and unique for me. THANK YOU!
On Saturday my hostparents took me to Joplin again and we had breakfast at Cracker Barrel. After that we went to a few stores and Starbucks. In the evening my area rep and his wife invited me and my hostparents to come over for playing "The Settler of Catan". We played 4 rounds and it was super fun.
Today I skyped with my family in the morning and then we went to church. Now we are just staying at home and getting ready for school tomorrow.

Week 14: International Education Week

Hey guys,
this week was International Education Week so it was a week of a different kind for me.
On Tuesday Tara and me did presentations in every hour of our Show Choir teacher. So the first three hours we went to the Middle School and the kids were super interested and had a whole lot of questions. In 4th hour I had to rush back to High School for taking a test and after lunch we did another 4 presentations in the High School Choir classes. After school we did our German Club again and this time we tought them a few basic sentences in German. In the later afternoon we went to a church for doing presentations, but we got dinner before. So Tara and I started with Germany and then the others went with Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Tadjikistan and Mexico. A women from the office from ASSE attended it and so she came to our house afterward and we talked for a bit.
On Wednesday I had to make up two tests that I missed and on Thursday evening we had Show Choir practice again.
On Friday I woke up with nearly no voice and my throat was hurting but I still went to school because I wanted to give the presentations that I had planned. So I gave 5 presentations in all American Government classes and I really enjoyed it, although I didn´t have a voice toward the end. In the evening my hostmom took me to Carthage and we ate at a restaurant that offered a German buffet this evening.
On Saturday after noon my hostparents took me to Joplin for looking for a dress for Winter Formal and for dinner.
Today we went to Joplin for breakfast and then we just stayed at home, studied and watched the American Music Awards.

That´s it for now,
Isabel

Week 13

Hello out there,
on Tuesday evening there was Fall Sport Recognition night for tennis, softball, volleyball and boys swim. So we went there and got called out. I just got called out and nothing more because I just played Junior Varsity so I got no letter or something.
On Thursday in second hour we went to the Middle School for choir practice and we had to do our presentation in government that we prepared in my group during the week. In the evening we had Show Choir practice again.
On Friday was Veterans Day and Middle and High School had an assembly together in the gym. Because I´m in Show Choir we had to perform as well as band and some individual students and teachers that gave speeches. It was amazing how much the Veterans get honored here in America and I think they deserve it. Also they organized a visit in a nursery home that day and so some of the choir people and others performed there in honor of the Veterans.
On Saturday my hostdad took me to a Lamar football game again. This time they played the Semi Championship against Mt. View Liberty and won 42-7. It was a pretty good game and the team spirit was as big as never before.
Today (at least till now) we just stayed at home and I´m doing homework and stuff that I didn´t manage to do during the week.

Wish you all a good week!
Isabel :)

Week 12

Hey guys,
this week was again pretty amazing.
On Monday was Halloween and we could dress up for school. I didn´t wanna buy a costume so I just painted my face like a sugar skull. After school me and Tara, the other german girl, went to the square in Lamar and volunteered for two hours by passing out candy for little children trick or treating. In the evening I went trick or treating with friends and it was so funny. But somehow it was also strange going trick or treating with 16.
Tuesday and Wednesday nothing special happened but on Thursday morning two guys took a picture of me for the tennis page in the yearbook and we got our yearbook order forms. It costs $50!At 8:30 I left with DECA for a field trip to the Missouri Southern State University in Joplin for a distict meeting. It only took 2 hours and after that we went to the mall for lunch and we had 2 hours to do some shopping. In the evening we had Show Choir practice again.
On Friday I went on another field trip with Spanish and we went to a small art gallery in Kansas City that was about the Mexican "Día de los Muertos" or Day of the Death. We got a tour and then we did some crafts. In the evening Lamar football played the District Championship and they won 53-0.
On Saturday after Show Choir practice, we had a exchange student trip to a Amish family that is living near Lamar and it was just amazing. After that my hostfamily took me to Joplin and we had dinner with my hostmoms parents and her son. Then we did some shopping and came home at 1.15 am.
Today we just stayed at home, studied and watched Netflix.
